Brown Bear Class Autumn 2017

September 2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been lovely welcoming the children in Brown Bear Class and getting to know the children who have joined our class this year. The children are settling in very well and making friends with their peers and the adults in the class.

IEP/Annual reviews will be held on Wednesdays from 1:30pm. The theme for this term is ‘Ourselves’.

In our Communication and language sessions we will be reading stories, using rhymes, playing games and singing songs with links to this topic. Children will work on one main book for the term. The book is called Rainbow Fish. We will focus on developing communication skills and participating in a variety of sensory activities. There will also be lots of opportunities for encouraging children to interact with their peers.

During Maths sessions will we will concentrate on counting, patterns and identifying numbers 1 to 20, recognising primary and secondary colours and sorting objects by size with support of Numicon. Our lessons will involve playing games, singing songs and will encourage turn - taking and making choices.

Our Personal Social Emotional Development topic is about differences and similarities-in themselves and between themselves, developing a sense of self and others. We will concentrate on building positive relationships with adults and peers. There will be an emphasis on developing individual communication skills. In our lessons, we will be learning to identify different parts of our bodies and our facial features.  Our lessons will involve a range of sensory activities to enable pupils to become aware of different parts of their bodies.

This term we are delighted to be introducing Special Yoga as part of our P.E. curriculum, this will be taught by Nora, who has been trained to teach Special Yoga, a practice which incorporates stretching and strengthening of the body as well as calming and focusing of the mind.

Our aim is make the curriculum as creative and interactive as possible and there will be lots of opportunities for children to experience and explore through art, music and ICT. There will also be opportunities for inclusion with mainstream peers from Lancasterian School.

There is a copy of our timetable attached for your information. Please keep using the home/school books to let us know about things you do with your child at the weekends or about any other news you wish to share – so that we can talk about this to the children at the beginning of the day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will try and help you as much as possible.

Thank you again for your support and cooperation.

Regards,

Anna Krok
