Brown Bear Class Spring 2018

January 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year to you all! The children have settled well into their daily routine again and are  continuing to be a lovely,  active bunch of children, who keep us very busy!

We have lots of exciting activities planned for the term ahead and we are looking forward to lots of fun and learning. The theme for Spring term is ‘Light and Dark’.

In our lessons, we will be reading stories, using rhymes, playing games and singing songs with links to our topic.

‘The Snowman’ and ‘Pet the cat’ are our main ones as we will learn about seasons, starting with winter this half term and following by spring in next half term. ‘Pete the cat’ series of books will support our maths sessions, we will be concentrating on counting sequences using familiar rhymes and games on the Interactive White Board. We will focus on communication skills and participating in a variety of sensory activities, as well as developing an understanding of the sequence of the story. There will also be lots of opportunities for encouraging children to interact with their peers.

We will also focus on individual physical development and expression, including dance (Monday) and PE sessions (Friday) taught by specialist teachers.  This term we will continue with Special Yoga (Wednesday) as part of our P.E. curriculum. This will be taught by Nora, who has been trained to teach Special Yoga, a practice which incorporates stretching and strengthening of the body as well as calming and focusing of the mind. In combination, there will be a strong emphasis on personal, social and emotional development. There will be lots of opportunities for inclusion with mainstream peers from Lancasterian School.

Our aim is to make the curriculum as creative and interactive as usual and there will be lots of opportunities for children to experience and explore through art, music (Wednesday and Thursday) and ICT (Tuesday).

Please keep using the Home/School books to let us know about things you do with your child at the weekends or about any other news you wish to share.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries and thank you in advance for your support and co-operation.  We look forward to discussing your child’s progress at their IEP and Annual Review meetings.

Best Wishes

Anna and Brown Bear Class Team.
