Panda Class Autumn 2018

September 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been lovely welcoming the children in Panda Bear Class and getting to know the children who have joined our school this year. The children are settling in very well and making friends with their peers and the adults in the class.

IEP/Annual reviews will be held on Mondays from 1:30pm. Our topic for the term is ‘Animals’.

In our Communication and Language/Literacy sessions we will be reading stories, using rhymes, playing games and singing songs with links to this topic. We will read and write for comprehension. Children will work on a chosen book for the term. We will focus on developing communication skills and participating in a variety of sensory activities. There will also be lots of opportunities for encouraging children to interact with their peers.

During Maths sessions we will concentrate on counting, understand numbers and quantity, patterns, recognizing colours and sorting shapes and their properties with support of Numicon. We will encourage children to extend their knowledge for problem solving.

Our Personal Social Emotional Development topic is about differences and similarities, developing a sense of self and others. We will concentrate on building positive relationships with adults and peers. There will be an emphasis on developing individual communication skills. In our lessons, we will be learning to identify different parts of our bodies through science and our understanding of the world.

This term we are delighted to continue Special Yoga as part of our P.E. curriculum; this will be taught by Nora, who has been trained to teach Special Yoga, a practice which incorporates stretching and strengthening of the body as well as calming and focusing of the mind.

Expressive Arts will continue through dance sessions with Zoe and an additional session with Flamingo chicks on Thursdays as well as music with Laura.

Our aim is to make the curriculum creative and interactive to make your children's time in school enriched and rewarding. There will also be opportunities for inclusion with mainstream peers from Lancasterian School.

There is a copy of our timetable attached for your information. Please keep using the home/school books to let us know about things you do with your child at the weekends or about any other news you wish to share – so that we can talk about this to the children at the beginning of the day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will try and help you as much as possible.

Thank you again for your support and cooperation.

Regards,

Anna Krok
