Teddy Bear Class Autumn 2018

September  2018

Welcome everyone! We are excited to have our returning students back in class and to welcome our new students and staff to Teddy Bear class!

Below is a list of everyone in our class; students and grown-ups. This half term we will be having a Teddy Bears' tea party so you can meet your child’s classmates and their parents and most of the staff. We will share one of our core books and invite the children to bring a stuffed toy from home to show their friends and join in with the special occasion.

This half term our topic is ‘Animals’. We are making one of our role play areas into a sensory Jungle, with textured fabric, cushions and puppets. It will also be a cosy and quiet area for children who may need a rest while adjusting to the school routine. The books we will be looking at most in our sessions are ‘Down in the Jungle’ and ‘Oh Dear’. We will be using songs and rhymes on our whiteboard and using puppets and speakers to retell and re-enact the stories. We will also share other books and stories about animals during carpet time and reading sessions such as ‘Dear Zoo’ and ‘Brown Bear What Do You See?’ Messy play is an important part of our daily routine and we will be doing lots of sensory learning using paint, playdough, pasta, shaving foam and cornflour, to name just a few. We also have sand and water trays in the classroom and garden for the children to experiment with capacity, weight, size, colour and shape. These experiences encourage our children explore and use their senses to understand the world around them. Please make sure your child wears clothes that are comfortable and can get messy. A spare change of clothes for your child can be left in school in case they do need to be changed.

We enjoy playing with our friends in the Lancasterian nursery and reception classrooms and outside areas. There are also have several small group sessions each week with our friends joining us for singing, dance and PE. In the next few weeks we will be opening our doors in the afternoon so that the children can choose to play in either the Vale or Lancasterian nursery classroom. These are lovely opportunities to develop personal, social and emotional skills such as making friends, sharing and turn taking and joining in with a group.

Home School Books

Your child has a home school book that should go home and come back to school every day. On the daily sheet we will let you know any important information about how your child has been feeling, trips, letters and therapists will write any notes in them. The children help us fill them in at the end of the day by using the symbols to say what they have enjoyed about school that day. Please let us know if your child has any hospital visits or appointments and will be off school in the books. We really like to hear about what your child is doing at home so we can talk to them about it at school. Anything from their favourite TV show, a birthday or special family occasion. If there is anything else you would like to know or if you have any questions or concerns, please leave a note in the book and we will call you for a chat or arrange a meeting.
