Teddy Bear Class Summer 2019

Summer term 2019

Dear Parents and Carers of Teddy Bear Class,

Welcome back! We hope you had a relaxing and sunny break. We have 2 children joining us this term and everyone is enjoying making new friends.

Topic

This half term our topic is ‘The Mini Bug Ball`. we will be going outside quite a lot to explore the natural environment. A spare change of clothes for your child can be left in school in case they  need to be changed as some of our activities will be quite messy. Lots of our activities will be focusing on sensory and explorative play which helps the children to use their senses to understand the world around them. We will also be going to the park when we can and are planning some other fun and exciting trips.

Communication, Literacy and Maths:

Some of the books we will be reading this term are ‘Butterfly, Butterfly’, ‘The Snail Trail’ and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. To help develop the children’s enthusiasm for these stories we will use props, puppets, photos, interactive whiteboard and songs.

We will continue learning about shapes, colour and numbers through practical activities and songs. During our weekly cooking sessions as well as activities in the sand and water tray, the children will have opportunities to explore weights and measurements.

Children’s development towards their targets is also fostered with Speech and language therapy input, symbols, objects, PODD books and Makaton signing. We encourage the children to make choices which helps their independence and communication as well as foster self confidence and self awareness.

Physical, Expressive Arts:

We all enjoy our twice a week music and singing sessions with Laura where we will explore music, dance, games and movement. Children have daily standing and individual physiotherapy programmes, which help them develop their physical skills. We will continue with weekly PE sessions with Kwame and a fun dance session with Zoe. The children have an opportunity to participate in hydrotherapy sessions every fortnight. We will also be using the soft room which will give them safe spaces to move more freely as well as having fun with friends from Lancasterian Early Years.

Home School Books

Please check the daily sheet in your child`s home school book every day to see what they have done at school. We will let you know any important information about your child’s day and letters about medicals and meetings are also put in the books. Let us know about anything special that your child does such as a birthday party or visiting family so we can talk about it with them in class. All of the children love to share what they do at home with their friends!
