Tutor Group 3 Autumn Term 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,


I hope that all our students and families in TG3 had an enjoyable summer break – we are pleased to welcome everyone back to school.

Our topic is ‘Our World’ and below is an outline of what your child will be experiencing during this term.



In English pupils will be engaging with the book ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle. They will be reading for pleasure and for information. Pupils will continue to learn Makaton signs and to use PODD books/symbol boards. TG3 will be working with the Speech and Language therapist to participate in a SMILE project to develop their speaking, listening and understanding skills.


The pupils will be continuing with number recognition, addition and subtraction and using it in everyday experiences such as shopping. There will be weekly cooking sessions as part of the maths/science curriculum.


In science/topic the pupils will be learning about the different animals, plants and birds in their local environment. They will be exploring the conditions needed for seeds to germinate.TG3 will also be exploring how and what they can recycle and reuse to help our environment.


Pupils will continue to learn about routines and turn taking and they will be encouraged to be as independent as possible.TG3 will focus on communicating their preferences/ opinions and their feelings using PODD books and Makaton signs. The focus will be on making and communicating choices. TG3 will also be exploring how to develop good relationships with others and respecting the differences between people.

Creative development: Music, Art and



During class music sessions pupils will be working on their listening skills, start/stop abilities and responding to music through movement. They will be learning songs about the weather.

A dance teacher will be taking a weekly dance session as part of the pupils PE / Creative development curriculum. During art sessions the pupils will be creating work using natural materials.


Students will use laptops to support with maths skills and concepts as well as interacting with the class Interactive Whiteboard for music, maths and other activities.


TG3 will be finding out about different wildlife habitats in the local environment.
