Panda Class Spring 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year to you all! The children have settled well again into their daily routine and continue to be a lively, active bunch and keeping us very busy! We have lots of exciting activities planned for the term ahead and we are looking forward to lots of fun and learning. The theme for Spring term is ‘Seeing the Light’.

In our Literacy lessons, we will be reading stories, using rhymes, playing games and singing songs with links to our topic. Our focus will be learning phonics and developing language and communication skills, with an emphasis on listening, speaking and using PODD books. During Mathematics, we will focus on patterns and sorting shapes, counting, and understanding numbers and quantity,  with a range of support including Numicon.

We will learn that with no light, there would be no life on our planet and that light helps plants to grow, it warms the planet, and it allows us to see all the wonders around us.

We will concentrate on communication skills and participating in a variety of sensory activities, as well as developing an understanding of sequencing of text and stories. There will also be lots of opportunities for children to interact with their peers and people in and around school and the community. We will also focus on individual physical development and expression, including dance (Monday) and PE sessions (Friday) taught by specialist teachers.  This term we will continue with Special Yoga (Friday) as part of our P.E. curriculum. This will be taught by Nora, she  incorporates stretching and strengthening of the body as well as calming and focusing on mindful play. There will be a strong emphasis on personal, social and emotional development. There will be lots of opportunities for inclusion with mainstream peers from Lancasterian School.

Our aim is to make the curriculum as creative, interactive and sensory as usual and there will be lots of opportunities for children to experience and explore through Art, Music (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and ICT (Friday).

Please keep using the Home/School books to let us know about things you do with your child at the weekends or about any other news you wish to share.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Thank you in advance for your support.  I look forward to discussing your child’s progress at their IEP and Annual Review meetings.

Best Wishes

Anna and Panda Class Team
