Teddies activities and links

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are thinking of all of you while your child is at home and have put together some activities and websites for you to use while school is closed. Home learning is not to replace your child’s experience in the classroom but to support them with continued education while away from school. These activities are a way to keep children motivated and engaged with learning whist having some fun with their family.

Books and telling stories are one of the best ways to encourage language development. This term we have been reading the books ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy and ‘The Blue Balloon’ by Mick Inkpen. But there are lots of types of books for you to share with your child: picture books, pop up books, information and poetry books which are available at your local library and can see read aloud on youtube.

Twinkl - https://www.twinkl.co.uk/offer

Twinkl are kindly offering a 1 month subscription for parents while schools are closed. The code is  UKTWINKLHELS. There is a section for Early Years, Special Educational Needs and they even have a BSL signing section.

Sensory play is an important part of your child’s development in all areas. This website is full of activities that you can make and do with your children. There are recipes for playdough, kinetic sand, and learning activities about exploring different temperatures, materials and textures.

Singing Walrus – https://thesingingwalrus.com/

We use these songs daily so the children are really familiar with them. The children like to dance and move along to the songs.

Live streaming shows and music lessons from around the world, including traditional tales and songs from many different cultures.

This is a strange and challenging time and the children will be feeling that as well so we understand that the children will need more down time and seek familiar toys and family interactions. So most importantly have fun with these activities to hopefully help settle your child and enjoy the time together. Please keep checking the website for more ideas and resources.
