Panda Class Autumn 2020

September 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been lovely welcoming the children in Panda Bear Class and getting to know the children who have joined our class this year. The children are settling in very well and making friends with their peers and the adults in the class.

PSPs, (Personal Support Plans) which have replaced IEPs, and Annual reviews will be held on Wednesdays from 1:30pm.

Our topic for the term is ‘This is us!’ and we are starting with the Recovery Curriculum, focusing on children’s feelings, anxieties and possible worries. We will spend time to get to know each other and make sure that children are feeling safe, happy, confident and ready to learn.

In our Communication and Language/Literacy sessions we will be reading stories, using rhymes, playing games and singing songs with links to this topic. We will also read and write for comprehension with focussed daily phonic sessions. Children will work on a chosen book for the term. We will focus on developing communication skills and participating in a variety of activities. There will also be lots of opportunities for encouraging children to interact with their peers.

During Maths sessions we will concentrate on counting, understanding numbers and quantities, patterns, recognizing colours and sorting 2D and 3D shapes and their properties with support of Numicon. We will encourage children to extend their knowledge for problem solving.

Our Personal Social Emotional Development topic is about differences and similarities, developing a sense of self and others. We will concentrate on building positive relationships with adults and peers. There will be an emphasis on developing individual communication skills. In our lessons we will be learning, exploring and identifying different aspects of our close environment through science and our understanding of the world.

This term we are delighted to continue Special Yoga as part of our P.E. curriculum, this will be taught by Nora, who has been trained to teach Special Yoga, a practice which incorporates stretching and strengthening of the body as well as calming and focusing of the mind. Expressive Art will continue through dance sessions with Flamingo Chicks on Thursdays as well as Music with Laura on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Our aim is make the curriculum as creative and interactive as possible to enable us to ensure children’s time in school is enriched and rewarding.

Please keep emailing me to let us know about things you do with your child at the weekends or about any other news you wish to share – so that we can talk about this to the children at the beginning of the day.
