Tutor Group 3 Autumn Term 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

 

I hope that all our students and families in TG 3 had an enjoyable break; we have had a lovely start back in school. Our topic during the autumn term is ‘My Toy Shop’’ and below is an outline of what your child will be experiencing during this term.

 

English

In English we will be reading for pleasure and for information. Students will continue to learn Makaton signs and to use PODD books/symbol boards. They will be learning letter sounds to support with reading. We will be sharing the book ‘A Balloon for Grandad’ as part of our topic.

Maths

The students will be continuing with number recognition, addition and subtraction and using it in everyday experiences such as shopping. They will also be exploring position and direction. There will be weekly cooking sessions as part of the maths/science/PSHE curriculum. 

Science/Topic

In science TG3 will be looking at the heart and its functions as well as  supporting a healthy heart and blood circulation

PHSE

Students will continue to learn about routines and turn taking and they will be encouraged to be as independent as possible.TG3 will focus on communicating their preferences/opinions and their feelings using PODD books and Makaton signs. The focus will be on making and communicating choices and developing friendships

Creative development: Music, Art and

PE

During class music sessions pupils will be working on their listening skills, start/stop abilities and responding to music through movement. They will be learning songs and recalling basic tunes.

A dance student will be taking a weekly dance session as part of the students PE/Creative development curriculum. During art/design sessions the pupils will be creating puppets and retelling a story using them.

TG3 will be working with Spurs Outreach Team and a coach from Middx Cricket Club as well as developing their throwing and catching skills

History/Topic

TG3 will be exploring their favourite toys and toys from the past. They will be looking at how toys have changed over time.  They will be engaging with toys from the past such as zoetropes and colour spinwheels
