Tutor Group 3 Spring 2022

January 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year! I hope that all our pupils and families in TG 3 had an enjoyable break and are pleased to be back in school. The topic this term is ‘Time Travellers’ and below is an outline of what your child will be experiencing during this term.

They will be reading for pleasure and for information. Pupils will continue to learn Makaton signs and to use PODD books/symbol boards. TG3 will be working with the Speech and Language therapist to participate in activities to develop their speaking, listening and understanding skills.

The pupils will be continuing with number recognition, addition and subtraction and using it in everyday experiences such as shopping. There will be weekly cooking sessions as part of the maths/science curriculum. Pupils will also be engaging in time activities which links to our History topic.

In science the pupils will be learning about the Earth in Space, planets and the Sun. They will be exploring why we have night and day and the exploration of space.

Pupils will continue to learn about routines and turn taking and they will be encouraged to be as independent as possible. They will be engaging in activities about’ Keeping Safe’ including who is a trusted person, what a secret is and why we do not keep them. TG3 will also be learning about online safety.

Creative development: Music, Art and PE

During music sessions pupils will be working on their listening skills, start/stop abilities and responding to music through movement. They will be learning songs about space.
Pupils will be having a weekly dance session as part of the pupils PE/Creative development curriculum. During art sessions the pupils will be engaging in 3D activities such as designing rockets and using a range of materials to create planets.

Students will use laptops to support maths skills and concepts as well as interacting with the class Interactive Whiteboard for music, maths and other activities.

TG3 will be exploring timelines and changes over time. They will be looking at changes in human development and how objects have developed over time.
In RE pupils will be learning about Places of Worship and how they are part of our local communities.

I look forward to seeing you at PSP and EHCP meetings. If you have any questions regarding this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

Catherine Williams (teacher)
