Paddington Class Spring 2022

January 2022

Dear Parents and Carers

Happy New Year to you all, and welcome back to the new term!

Here is some information detailing our curriculum for the coming Spring term:

The topic for this term is ‘Dinosaur Detectives’, in which we will be exploring dinosaur toys and games, and using books such as ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet’. Our sensory curriculum will provide us with inspiration and lots of opportunities to investigate this theme through play and exploration.

In our literacy lessons we will be reading stories, using rhymes, playing games and singing songs linked to this topic. Our focus story will be ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy.

The children are settling in nicely after the Christmas holiday break, and the normal routines which keep our children feeling safe and secure are being re-established so that the children can feel comfortable, relaxed and confident enough to be able to focus on their new learning experiences.

In Paddington class we will continue to use a holistic approach to the curriculum and we will ensure to work in this way as we continue to support pupils back into class/ school routines, favourite activities and strengthen their friendships and bonds with peers and adults.

We will therefore focus on our relationships with each other; encourage the children to express their feelings through continuing to develop total communication systems for individuals; ensure the physical wellbeing of each child is appropriately monitored and managed; and of course we will have fun – by returning to activities which we know the children have enjoyed.

We aim to make our curriculum as creative and as interactive as possible and explore using a variety of sensory and immersive activities, designed to stimulate the children’s awareness and encourage their interactive participation in their learning.

We plan to make trips to the local park and the local pond when the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, where there will be lots of opportunities to encourage the children to interact with their peers and express themselves through free choice activities, music, art and ICT based sessions.

We are looking forward to a positive and productive term – and we aim to involve you all as much as possible, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
