Koala Class Spring 2022

January 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the new term.

The history based topic for this term is ‘Dinosaur detectives’. In science we will be learning about ‘Earth and Space’.

In our literacy lessons we will be reading stories, using rhymes, playing games and singing songs linked to these topics. Our focus stories are ‘Whatever next’, ‘Look up’, ‘Astro girl’ and ‘The Darkest Dark’ and ‘Dinosaur that Pooped the Planet’. Children will be listening to and joining in stories and rhymes.

We will focus on communication skills and children will have the opportunity to develop vocabulary related to both topics as well as practice gross motor skills through sensory play, mark making, painting and cutting. We will also continue to focus on developing recognition of sounds in words, word building and further development of reading strategies.

In maths we will continue learning about numbers and adding and subtraction with numbers to 20. We will explore and talk about size, weight, capacity, position, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. We will concentrate on number order, recognizing numbers and number bonds. We will continue to use shapes to create and recreate patterns and build models. We will learn about number patterns and begin counting in 2’s and 5’s.

We are going to learn new choreography with the dance teacher. In music children are going to use various instruments to learn about sounds and find out about songs and music on this term’s theme. There will be lots of opportunities for children to interact with their peers and express themselves through free choice activities, music, art and ICT based sessions.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
