Teddy Bear Class Summer 2022

April 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you all enjoyed the Easter break and had opportunity to spend time in the sunshine. During this first week back Teddy Bear friends have been spending time doing much of their learning in our own outside space. We are gradually welcoming new children in to the class and some children are extending the time that they are with us.

The children all have new targets they are working towards which were set with you last term. If you are unsure of any of them please call and we are happy to talk them through again with you. Research shows that the closer the partnership between home and school, the better the outcomes for the child.

Our daily routines became established last term and it has been lovely to see how the children know what they need to do and are becoming more skilled at recognizing objects and symbols. We will be extending their learning by offering more choice and supporting increasing independence.

We will continue to offer the children many sensory experiences linked to our theme of “Treasures of the Ocean”. With this theme in mind we will be looking at the books “Smiley Shark” by Ruth Galloway and “Commotion in The Ocean” by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz. We will also be learning more number rhymes for example “Five Little Fish Swimming in The Sea”

Once again much of our work will be messy and wet! We will ensure that the children are dry after water activities therefore we would appreciate plenty of spare clothes. Children do learn best when engaged with sensory activities which spark their interest.

We will continue to allow time for the children to be supported to access individual activities and play with some of the toys in the room. We will use their interests to work towards some of their targets during this time.

We have specialist teachers to teach music, singing and dance. They have really enjoyed these sessions so far and have range of songs and dance moves they are familiar with. It is clear though the children’s responses how much they enjoy these sessions.

We are able to access the sensory room in the class, the soft play room and also the dedicated outside space so your children will have a change of scene and feel throughout the course of the day.

As always, if you notice your child is enjoying something in particular please let us know and we may be able to incorporate this in class. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Best Wishes

Caroline, Megan and the Teddy Bear Team
