Polar Bear Class Summer 2022

April 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the new term! Everyone seems well rested after the Easter holidays and happy to be back to school.

Here is some information about our curriculum for Summer term. Our topic for the Summer term is ‘Ocean Treasures’ and children will be exploring ocean creatures, shells and treasure chests. Over the next few weeks children will become brave pirates and we will sail the seas searching for treasures. We will be reading stories, cooking, gardening, using rhymes, playing games and singing songs with links to our topic.

In Literacy lessons we will continue learning phonics and developing language and communication skills with an emphasis on listening and speaking, turn taking and making choices. During our daily phonics sessions, we will continue exploring different sounds through songs, stories and games.

We will continue with our regular sessions led both by the Speech and Language therapist and class team to develop communication through the use of visually based and highly motivating activities.

In Maths sessions we will explore and talk about size, weight, capacity, position, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. We will continue to use shapes to create simple patterns and build simple models.

In Science this term pupils will be learning about everyday Materials through sensory exploration of different materials and sensory stories.

We will continue with our regular music and dance lessons led by specialist teachers.

This term we will be making the most of the outside environment.  We will have regular sessions in our garden planting seeds, flowers, tomatoes and herbs, watering them and watching them grow. Also while outside we will continue working on our physical targets such as walking, standing and moving around.

There will be lots of opportunities for children to interact with their peers and express themselves through free choice activities, turn taking activities, music and dance.

Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.  We look forward to discussing your child’s progress at their PSP (Personal Support Plans) and Annual Review meetings.

With Best Wishes,

Lilia (class teacher) and Polar class team.
