April 2022

Dear parents and carers,

Topic - Ocean Treasures

This term our topic will be focussed on ‘Ocean Treasures’ - we will be learning about what lives in the sea and creating our art through this. We will also begin to think about different parts of the world, and the sea life that lives in different parts of the world.

In English this term we will be learning about phonics. We will be looking at identifying letter sounds, and applying these to writing and reading common CVC words. We will also begin to look at reading and writing high frequency words, for some of our students this will be focussed on writing our names.

Students will also be practising writing sentences using symbols and podd books to support them.

We will also be developing our sentence building skills by practising using nouns and verbs to make a simple sentence.

Within maths this term we will be looking at number, measure and shape. Students will be learning about 3D shapes, looking at identifying different shapes and their properties. We will also be looking at developing our number skills to addition and subtraction.

The students will also be learning about measuring weight, and will be attempting to apply these to real life situations within cooking.

Within PSHE we will be learning about keeping safe in the community, We will be talking about who can keep us safe and which adults we feel safe with.

PSHE is fully embedded within the class day to day activities and underpins all lessons.

Our Science this half term is called ‘uses of everyday materials’’. We will be learning about different materials, their textures and their uses.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please do not hesitate to ask.
