Tutor Group 2 Autumn 2022

September 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that all our pupils and families in TG2 had an enjoyable summer break and are pleased to be back in school. The topic this term is ‘All About Me’ and below is an outline of what your child will be experiencing during this term.

We continue to develop our use of Makaton signs and PODD books/symbol boards. We will work with the Speech and Language therapist to participate in activities to develop speaking, listening and communication skills. We will continue to engage in a phonics programme and reading a range of texts.

We will be working on number recognition, place value and addition/subtraction. There will be weekly cooking sessions as part of the maths/science curriculum. We will be exploring the use of numbers in our daily experiences.

In science we will be learning about healthy eating and digestion as well as keeping our teeth clean. We will also be learning about the human skeleton.

We will continue to learn about routines and turn taking and we will be encouraged to be as independent as possible. We will be engaging in activities to explore what we are good at and understanding kind/unkind behaviour.

Creative development: Music, Art and PE

During music sessions we will be working on our listening skills, start/stop abilities and responding to music through movement. We will also have music sessions with the Vale band and a weekly dance session as part of the pupils PE/Creative development. We will also have swimming and PE sessions to develop skills and participation in a range of physical activities. In Art sessions we will be continuing to develop our skills exploring different techniques to produce creative work.

We will engage with the Interactive Whiteboard to support maths skills and concepts as well as music, phonics, reading and other activities. We will also be exploring the basic features of an iPad

In RE we will be learning about the Hindu Festival Diwali and Christmas. We will be engaging in a History curriculum which has a focus on ourselves and our family experiences.

I look forward to seeing you at PSP and EHCP meetings. If you have any questions regarding this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

Catherine Williams (teacher)
