Tutor Group 1 Autumn 2022

                                                                                                                                    September 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the new school year. We are excited to have our returning students back and to welcome our new students and their families to TG1.

The students are settling in well, re-establishing their friendships and making new friends with new classmates and getting to know the adults in the class. We are beginning to establish our class routines and looking forward to a busy and very positive Autumn term.

English/Communication - In our literacy lessons we will be reading stories, using rhymes, playing games and singing songs. Our Literacy activities will include daily phonics activities to explore sounds and rhythms. We will focus on developing language and communication skills, with an emphasis on listening, speaking, signing and using objects of reference, visual timetable and symbols.

Maths - During Maths sessions we will concentrate on exploring numbers and quantities, patterns, colours and shapes. We will do it through cooking, sensory exploration and anticipation games.

Science - Pupils will be learning about animals including humans. We will be learning about our bodies and how to keep it strong and healthy. Messy Play and exploration of different media and materials will help children to have a better understanding of living creatures.

Creative Development: Music, Art and PE - During our class music sessions we will be working on our

listening skills, start and stop abilities and responding to music through movement. We will be learning

songs and recalling basic tunes. Pupils will be having a weekly dance session as part of the pupils’

PE/Creative development curriculum. During art sessions children will be exploring colours and materials

through mark making activities. We will have as many outdoor activities as possible while the weather is good. The focus will be on walking, standing and balancing and making the most of the outdoor space available.

ICT – Pupils will be exploring different cause-and-effect toys. Developing cause and effect is an important stage in a child’s learning and social communication development. It helps pupils to learn that their actions can cause something to happen.

PSHE – Within PSHE we will be learning about self-care and independence. PSHE is fully embedded within the class day to day activities.

Understanding The World: History/Geography – As part of our UTW lessons we will be learning about ourselves and our Family Heritage, countries and places our families come from. We will be learning through exploring different cuisine, traditions and music.

Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. We look forward to discussing your child’s

progress at their PSP (Personal Support Plans) and Annual Review meetings.

With Best Wishes,

Lilia (class teacher) and TG1 team
