Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back for the Summer term.
Humanities
This half term in Geography the topic is: Understanding the World. We will be looking at Diverse Places - Who lives in Antarctica? Why are rainforests important to us? Would you like to live in the desert?
History will be taught in Summer term 2. The theme will be ‘Medieval Britain - The Normans and the Hundred Year War.
English
This term the topic for English is Poetry. We will focus on: Performing a poem, Writing Sentences, Using a capital letter and full stop. Also using capital letters for people, places and days of the week and the personal pronoun ‘I’.
We will continue to practise our reading and spelling skills and hopefully improve our phonetic skills by continuing our daily work using Little Wandle’ Letters and Sound programme.
Maths
This term the topic will be: Exploring Shapes. We will be returning to time, and money and learning about 3D shapes as well as developing our addition and subtraction skills.
PSHE
This term the topic for PSHE is: Different types of families, including - Different types of relationships, Healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviour, looking at how families are made up of different people. Also, who cares for us and the features of healthy relationship behaviours.
Next half term we will look at Growing and Changing: Dealing with touch and Intimate relationships, consent and contraception.
We will also continue our work on Mental well-being, learning to cope with different emotions and being able to express our feelings to others. This project will be led by M-SET. We will go to the Primary department for the sessions and we may have one more visit to the University of East London.
Science
This term the topic is Earth and Space. We will be focusing on: Movement of the Earth and other planets, Movement of the moon relative to the Earth, Spherical bodies and Earth’s rotation to explain day and night.
Summer term 2 we will be looking at Plants: The functions of different parts of flowering plants. Requirements of plants for life and growth. How water is transported within plants. Life cycle of flowering plants, pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal.

In our RE lessons we will be looking at: Why are Some Stories Special?
What stories/books are special to me and my family?
What stories/books are special to people within religions and beliefs?
Christianity, Islam, Buddhism.
Independence
TG4 will continue to focus on communication: listening to and following instructions. Maintaining focus and concentration. Comprehension and expression.
Computing
This term the theme is: Data Handling - International Space Station.
We will be looking at - Creating and labelling images and
Learning how computers are used in the wider world.
Homework
We will share weekly a book that is at the current working phonics level. This will be sent home to help reinforce the skills and knowledge learned during the week. If you have any questions regarding this information, please do not hesitate to ask.
