07/09/2021 - Update from Headteacher

7th September 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you had a good summer holiday.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for all you have done to support your child's learning during recent times. To all the families joining our school community for the first time, I extend a very warm welcome to you. We are enjoying getting to know all our new pupils as they settle in.

I am sorry if you have been affected by the transport issues at the start of term. Transport is provided by the local authority and the school has no control over the organisation of routes or staff. However, we are doing everything in our power to support families with any issues, so do let us know if you have any outstanding concerns. Please see the latest Haringey SEND newsletter for more information (under newsletters tab)

Covid-19 update
As a special school, we intend to continue with all measures in place to keep the school as safe as possible. We will continue to follow our current school Covid-19 risk assessment, including adult masks in shared/small spaces, hand washing, distancing, ventilation and class bubbles. We will let you know if and when a positive case is identified at school and let you know if your child is a close contact.

Changes to contract tracing and self-isolation
Since 16th August 2021, children under the age of 18 (and any adult who is double vaccinated) are no longer required to self-isolate when they have been in close contact with a positive case. If your child has been identified as a close contact, you will be asked to book your child in for a PCR test. This is the only way of knowing if the virus is spreading within the school. If a member of your household tests positive for Covid-19, your child can continue to attend school (including while awaiting the result of their PCR test) as long as they are feeling well and not showing any symptoms of coronavirus.

What do you need to do?
1. Please inform the school if a member of your household has tested positive for Covid-19. This is to help protect your children and the wider community, and so we can ensure precautions are taken for our most vulnerable pupils. Please report to the school any symptoms, testing and results so we can take any necessary action.

2. Please do keep your child at home and arrange for a PCR test immediately if they display any of the following symptoms (however mild):
● A high temperature
● A new continuous cough
● A loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell.

PCR tests can be arranged by following this link: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test and is available from sites at Alexandra Palace, Haringey Irish Centre Car Park and Stamford Hill Primary School (appointment only).

3. Rapid home testing (lateral flow) - we are asking all staff, families of primary children and of secondary children who cannot tolerate the rapid test swabs, to test adults in your household twice a week. This will help us to prevent any asymptomatic cases coming into school. Please let us know if you need any kits, as we have some at school.

Thank you for your support as we continue to stride towards keeping our school and wider community safe.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah McLay
