Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back for the Summer term.
Humanities
This half term in Geography we are studying Diverse Places.
History will be taught in the second part of the Summer term and the topic will be ‘Medieval Britain - The Normans and the Hundred Year War.
English
In English we are going to be revisiting poetry. We will focus on rhyming words and poems.
We will practise our reading and spelling skills and improve our phonetic skills by continuing our daily work using Little Wandles Letters and Sound programme.
Maths
Within maths this half term we will be returning to time, and money and learning about 3D shapes, and developing our addition and subtraction skills.
Next half term we will work on; fractions, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division.
PSHE
Our focus will be on Different types of relationships, looking at how families are made up of different people, who cares for us and the features of healthy relationship behaviours.
Next half term we will look at Growing and Changing. We will also continue our work on Mental well being, learning to cope with different emotions and being able to express our feelings to others. This project will be led by M-SET.
We will go to the Primary department for the sessions and we may have one more visit to the University of East London.
Science
Earth and Space is the focus for this half term where we will identify the main features of Planet Earth (land and water). We will study how the Earth rotates around the Sun. We will do some practical tasks to help understand about day and night. We will also begin to understand the phases of the moon. Plants will be studied next half term.
R.E.
Why are Some Stories Special? is our focus. We will think about a story or book we like and think about why it is special to us. We will also think about the messages in what we read that help us become better individuals.
Independence
TG5 will continue to focus on listening to and following instructions. This will be taught by following set instructions in and around the school. Going to the supermarket or around the local area and whilst in the kitchen.
Computing
The theme is Data Handling: International Space Station
Homework
Weekly homework based on the week’s phonic/ English or maths lessons will be given to help reinforce the skills and knowledge learned during the week.
